In January, Governor Gavin Newsom gave his first State of the State speech and one of the most appalling statistics stuck out: nearly 1 million people in California lack access to safe, clean, and affordable drinking water.
What’s more, roughly 300 California public water systems serving communities and schools are currently out of compliance with drinking water standards.
This is a crisis, and we can take action today to fix it. Water is a human right.
We’re supporting Senator Bill Monning and Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia’s legislation (SB 200 + AB 217) to establish California’s Safe Water Drinking Fund, which would:
- Create a long-term, sustainable solution to remedy this problem
- Activate the State Water Resources Board to act now
- Ensure impacted communities are centered in the fight for clean water
Whether families rely on a public water system, a state small water system, or domestic well for their drinking water supply, every Californian has a right to safe, affordable, and accessible water.
We’re ready to get this critical legislation passed, but we need your help.
If we make our voices heard today, we can make a critical difference in supporting families across the state and ensuring our elected leaders hear from us.
We’re glad you’re in this fight with us.
