Great news!
Last week, over 50 youth activists from all over the state joined us to rally at the State Capitol and met with lawmakers to urge them support Assembly Constitutional Amendment (ACA) 8. Thank you for joining our efforts and raising your voice to tell the Legislature to lower the voting age.
If you haven’t contacted your legislator, it’s not too late to make your voice heard:
Take action now and call your legislator and tell them to vote YES on ACA 8.
We’ve built incredible momentum, but with the Assembly voting on the bill this month, we still have a lot of work ahead of us.
Last Tuesday’s day of action at the Capitol:
- Drew over 50 students and young people from across the state who lobbied their elected officials to urge them to support the bill
- Mobilized over 150 people from organizations, including Power California, Equality California, and the Courage Campaign, for a press conference and rally on the steps of the Capitol
- Solidified the support of 65 organizations and 32 co-authors
- Reached over 100,000 people online and secured media coverage by ABC10, MTV News, and CalMatters Passed ACA 8 through two committees!
And we’re just getting started.
While Big Oil and corporate polluters do everything they can to undermine our democracy and assist with systemically disenfranchising young people and people of color from voting, California has a huge opportunity right now to enact one of the boldest election reforms in generations this legislative cycle by passing ACA 8.
Young people are marching, protesting, organizing, and demanding action on climate. They are ready to vote. What’s more, research shows the earlier in life one builds a relationship with the political process, the more likely they are to form a lifelong habit of voting.
Young people understand what’s at stake, and with less than 11 years to address the climate crisis deserve a chance to vote that will affect their futures the most.
Make a call now to your legislator and urge them to vote YES on ACA 8.
I am glad that you are standing with us on this issue. We need you in this fight to empower hundreds of thousands of young people to participate in our democracy.
Together, we can build a more inclusive democracy for everyone.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
